Tesla Launches Full Self-Driving Subscription in India

Tesla has launched its Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription service in India, priced at ₹14,999 per month, following regulatory approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

What FSD Includes

The subscription unlocks Tesla's advanced driver-assistance suite, including automatic lane changes on highways, Autopilot on city streets, automatic parking, and smart summon features. Tesla emphasises that the system still requires driver supervision at all times.

Regulatory Context

The MoRTH's clearance came with conditions: FSD cannot be used in areas flagged as school zones or near religious gatherings, and Tesla must submit quarterly safety reports to the ministry. The company must also maintain a local support team for regulatory coordination.

Pricing and Availability

At ₹14,999/month, India's FSD pricing is lower than the US price of approximately ₹16,500/month equivalent. The service is currently available on Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. Model X and Model S are expected to be added by end of year.

Safety Record

Tesla's FSD technology has been involved in several high-profile accidents in the US, and its India launch has attracted scrutiny from road safety advocates. However, Tesla points to its fleet-level safety statistics, which show lower accident rates per mile compared to human-driven vehicles.
